TBI 25th Step towards Expansion

As part of its strategic plan for expansion and increased widely, Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) has opened a new branch located at Al-Mansour-Karkh/Baghdad making the total number of branches spread across Baghdad and other provinces to 25. The branch will offer a variety of services to its customers, including individuals, government institutions, local private sector companies, and foreign instiutions operating in Iraq.

The official spokesperson for the bank, Ahmed Saad Al-Khazraji, stated, “The management of Trade Bank of Iraq, chaired by Mr. Bilal Sabah Hussain, President of the Bank and Chairman of the Board of Directors, is working to implement all the directives of the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, in developing all banking services offered to customers and increasing the number of branches overall. This aims to provide better services and facilitate banking procedures to meet the public different needs.”

He added, “Trade Bank of Iraq is steadily and confidently advancing towards enhancing financial inclusion and supporting the Iraqi national economy by providing all financial and banking services contributing to supporting commercial operations. This, in turn, will facilitate the import of raw materials for various sectors, including industrial, food, and others, in addition to providing banking support for reconstruction efforts, infrastructure development, and various other sectors.”

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

Trade Bank of Iraq “TBI” held a breast cancer awareness seminar in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Women’s Affairs Department, which was organized by TBI’s Women’s Empowerment Division for a number of female employees at TBI Head Office.

The seminar discussed on the importance of early diagnosis of cancer, emphasizing that early treatment is crucial in preventing the exacerbation of the disease, increases survival rates, and decreases mortality rates.

Thus, it is essential for women to be aware of the symptoms and causative factors associated with breast cancer and to seek medical care promptly. This is part of the action plan of the National Strategy for Iraqi Women (2023-2024), aiming to raise awareness about the importance of early breast cancer detection to receive better medication options.

Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) took the initiative to rehabilitate the emergency room at Ibn Sina Hospital. The necessary civil works conducted thereto included the rehabilitation and renovation of all units and facilities, as well as the execution of electrical, mechanical, civil defense, fire-fighting, and medical gas pipeline systems.

In accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, to launch a national campaign for planting and afforestation five million trees and palm trees in the streets, squares, and highways of Baghdad and all provinces.

Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) assumed responsibility of afforesting one of  Baghdad’s entrances (Baghdad-Diyala Highway), covering a distance of 9.5 km starting from AL Shaab district arch till Baghdad Gate in Al Hussainiyah district. The project includes preparation work, installation of a drip irrigation system, pumps, watering basins, and planting perennial trees.

This campaign is being carried out in coordination with the Baghdad Governorate, the Mayor of Al-Zahour district in AL Hussainiyah area, and the Government Communications Team of the Prime Minister’s Office. The activities will be implemented according to the planned strategies and programs, aiming to restore vegetation cover and plant vast areas with trees and greenery. Afforestation plays a significant role in reducing environmental pollution, combating climate change, and enhancing biodiversity, which reflects positively on the environment and the life of society.

Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) participated in the Annual Arab Banking Conference held in Qatar under the motto “Sustainable Development Requirements and the Role of Banks,”. This conference was attended by an elite of banking, economic, and specialists’ experts across the Arab countries.

 

The Annual Arab Banking Conference 2024, organized by the Union of Arab Banks (UAB) in Qatar, was held under the motto “Sustainable Development Requirements and the Role of Banks.” The Governor of the Qatar Central Bank, Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, inaugurated this conference, with the participation of a TBI delegation  and audience.

The conference was attended by an elite of banking, economic, and financial sector experts from several participating Arab countries, alongside representatives of Arab banks and financial institutions from different countries. The event focused on discussing current financial and banking matters, exchanging ideas, and reviewing the latest trends in the banking sector and modern financial technology.

Organizing such event is important to discuss the role of sustainable development in maintaining balance among economic, social, and environmental growth and the vital role that banks play in financing renewable energy projects and supporting community-based programs which raise and improve all aspects of life and the environment, thus achieving economic feasibility that positively impacts development. The conference was attended by the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Dr. Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, Chairman of the Board of the Arab Monetary Fund, Dr. Fahd bin Mohammed Al-Turki, Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mr. Atwan Al-Atwani, the Prime Minister’s Financial Advisor, Dr. Mudher Mohammed Saleh, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Banking Affairs, Dr. Saleh Mahood, and the Chairman of the Iraqi Private Banks League, Mr. Wadi’a Al-Handhal. The conference discussed several key topics, including the role of fiscal and monetary policies in supporting the banking sector and digital transformation, the financial sustainability roadmap project, and the environmental, social as well as governance standards guide for banks.

This conference was held as part of the efforts to implement the Iraqi government’s directives to promote the culture of electronic payments in Iraq, adopting the latest financial technologies and making them available for citizens through more advanced solutions and easy-to-use digital alternatives. Additionally, it emphasizes the adoption of modern electronic payment methods that facilitate financial transactions between banks and citizens, saving time and effort, enhancing trust between all parties involved, as well as mitigating risks associated with cash handling and avoid hoarding money at home or outside financial and banking institutions.

 

 

Construction, Reconstruction and Energy Exhibition

Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) participated in the Construction, Reconstruction and Energy Exhibition which was held in Nineveh governorate as Iraqi Government directed to provide support and assistance to all exhibitions that contribute to the development and attribution of the construction and reconstruction process in the governorate.

The exhibition was attended by Dr.Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities; Dr. Hussein Lazim, General Manager of Central Bank of Iraq-Mosul branch, and Mr. Mokbel Al-Daabbagh, the President of the Nineveh Chamber of Commerce, in addition to other government figures and various private sector companies, along with a number of specialists as well as those interested in such field.

Our engagement aimed to directly communicate with companies and investors in Nineveh governorate, and to keep abreast of the market’s practical requirements of banking services that meet their requirements, thus serving the development and reconstruction processes in the governorate.

Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) participated in 15th Hawler International Technology Exhibition (HITEX), which was held in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the exhibition was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of the Region, Mr. Masrour Barzani, with participation of a number of government officials, information and communication technology companies, public and private banks, electronic payment companies and other specialists in the field of technology as well as number of visitor and interested individuals

During the exhibition, which lasted for four days, many topics were discussed, including latest modern technologies in various technological fields, digital solutions offered for the financial sector, entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence. This exhibition was attended by a number of visitor and interested individuals.

In accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister to have all government institutions provide support and assistance for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, and under the supervision of Mr. Bilal Sabah Hussein, President of Trade Bank of Iraq “TBI’ and Chairman of the Board,  

TBI donated to distribute more than 5,000 boxes of water to the Husseini processions in the holy city of Karbala during the Arbaeen anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

In collaboration with the Iraqi Chambers of Commerce Federation, Trade Bank of Iraq organized a training course on managing and securing the electronic platforms for a number of women entrepreneurs. Based on the directives of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers in support of the drug control strategy developed by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior for the year 2023 to combat this phenomenon,

Trade Bank of Iraq organized an awareness-raising seminar on combating drug abuse in collaboration with the General Directorate for Drug Control and Psychotropic Substances / Public Relations and Media Department. This seminar is part of the national campaign to educate and raise awareness about the dangers of using these harmful substances, promote healthy behaviors, and guide individuals and youth to exercise utmost caution against this devastating issue due to its health and social damages and violations of regulations and laws.

Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) participated in the annual forum for compliance managers in Arab banks as part of the activities of the Union of Arab Banks, held in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh in the Arab Republic of Egypt for the period from June 6 till 8, 2024.

Prime Minister Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani sponsors the signing of a cooperation agreement between Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) and the German Export Credit Agency, to finance private sector development projects within the framework of the governmental sovereign guarantees initiative.

 

 

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani inaugurated today, Wednesday, the second specialized workshop to support the private industrial construction sector. During the workshop, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) and the German Export Credit Agency to finance private sector development projects under the government’s sovereign guarantees initiative. Additionally, an authorization letter was signed to finance the construction of  glass manufacturing plant in Najaf province with 110 million euros, between TBI and German banks Commerzbank and AKA Bank.

We affirm our commitment to the decision of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the salary domiciliation for the Iraq Kurdistan region employees, which stipulates the domiciliation of the salaries of employees of Kurdistan with federal government banks operating outside Kurdistan, as the participation of TBI shall be within the government banks based on the decision of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the domiciliation of the salaries of employees of the Iraq Kurdistan Region. 

We would also like to confirm that Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) has the high and solid practical ability to complete the process of domiciliation the salaries of employees of the Kurdistan who wish to choose our bank among the government banks participating in the process of domiciliation the salaries to serve our people in the Kurdistan Region, and that the bank is still waiting for the Iraq Kurdistan Regional Government to send lists of names. The employees whose salaries will be domiciled with their supporting documents attached, so that the implementation of the salary domiciliation process can begin and proceed.

In compliance with the decisions of the Federal Supreme Court and in accordance with the directives of the esteemed Prime Minister, Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, regarding the participation of the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) in the salary domicile process for the employees of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq.

A dedicated delegation from TBI, led by the Manager of TBI’s Erbil branch, met with a specialized delegation from Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil. The meeting aimed to discuss the process of domiciling the salaries of regional employees within the bank, discussions covered the requirements for opening accounts, issuing cards, and deploying ATM machines throughout the region, ensuring convenient cash withdrawal for employees.  

TBI’s delegation clarified to the corresponding delegation that the Salary Domicile Process represents the utmost importance to the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, and is being directly and personally monitored due to the significant interest it holds for the people in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

In conclusion, TBI delegation expressed its full readiness to provide salary domicile services and to issue electronic cards to government sector employees in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The bank awaits the employee’s lists submission, along with the supporting documents, from the regional government. This will allow TBI to promptly initiate and carry out the salary domicile process.

Under the sponsorship of Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, a memorandum of cooperation was signed today between the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister/ Minister of Planning, Mr. Mohammed Tamim, and the Prime Minister`s Expert Advisor, Chairman of the Special Committee for Sovereign Guarantees, Mr. Mohammed Al-Darraji.

This memorandum of cooperation is part of the government`s initiative to provide sovereign guarantees to the private sector, aligned with the 2023 Federal Budget Law and the Cabinet Resolution No. (23404) of 2023. It involves JICA financing private sector projects in Iraq to establish factories aimed at nationalizing the pharmaceutical, construction, chemical, petrochemical, energy, and agricultural and food industries.

The memorandum of cooperation supports the government`s program to promote and localize strategic industries in line with Prime Minister Al-Sudani`s directives. An initial amount of $200 million will be provided to finance significant projects that serve the Iraqi citizens and the Iraqi economy, reducing external imports and foreign currency transfers.

The goal is to elevate Iraqi companies to international standards by opening up to global financing banks and ensuring quality control through agreements with major industrial nations.
